I used to think…

I used to think I didn’t know anyone who was gay; I used to think to be gay was to be promiscuous; but now… I see that I did know people who are gay, but for whom this revelation was an embarassement to their family, or was physically risky, or [caused them to be] fearful of losing job, friends, family… I see now that many gays are living in loving committed relationships.

I used to think that to be a Christian meant being welcoming to anyone who wishes to come together to worship Christ. I still believe that but realize. I am greatly disappointed that some (or many) people call themselves Christian but make no effort to practice their faith as Christ taught. The stories read earlier make me realize that sometimes people allow negativity (hatred, mistrust, fear) to influence their faith and life.
