Her daughter came out, then she was asked to leave
My wife and I were married 31 December 1988 by the female minister of my wife’s United Church (just northwest of Toronto).
The minister was a single mother of two adult daughters, one of whom had returned home and had just told her mother she was “coming out” as a lesbian. Her mother was loving and accepting but the congregation was not. About a year later she was asked to leave. Following that she moved to Manitoba to carry on her ministry work.
For my wife and I this was a very sad turn of events. It also showed that the leadership of the United Church, at that time, was not ready for outcomes such as this.
Are they there yet?
