I strongly believe that an apology is long due

Dear United Church,

I’m writing to inform you that I strongly believe that an apology is long due to the Indigenous and LGBTQ+ community and that somehting seriously needs to be done to reconcile with these groups.

First off, I’ll start with the LGBTQ+ community and how they deserve a lot better than what/how the United Church of Canada (who is supposed to be accepting and make people feel safe) has treated them. In 2016 only 6% were Affirming to these people, which means only 168 out of the 2834 congregations are accepting to people who embrace the way God made them.* Some churches have made these people feel as if they themselves are a sin and that God himself didn’t love or didn’t accept them which is an unthinkable thing but it’s very true for these people because of how the United Church of Canada has treated them.

Signed, Anyanna M.
